Review the directions for Tutoring Assignment: Part I of Content Area Literacy Project Classroom Observation

Complete your classroom observation by the end of week two.  Select a student to tutor.  In this project you are required to spend a minimum of six (6) hours over the course of the term working with an individual student who is struggling in content area reading comprehension.
Part 1--Content Area Classroom Observation       Point Value:  25
Observe a lesson in your content area or a content of interest to you (be sure that you are knowledgeable enough to tutor someone else in the content subject). You should observe the same teacher for at least one lesson (but you may choose to do additional observations).   Look for evidence during the lesson that relates to the following questions:
(1)   Which content standards and concepts are addressed in the lesson?
(2)   How does the teacher connect to students’ prior knowledge and develop interest in the lesson?
(3)   What instructional strategies are used to engage students in the lesson and support their learning (i.e., pre-reading, during reading, post reading strategies)?
(4)   What instructional materials and/or multimedia resources are used to help students learn the content?
(5)   How did the teacher differentiate instruction to meet the needs of English learners, students with special needs, and gifted students?
(6)   How did the teacher assess student understanding during the lesson (formative assessment) and at the end of the lesson (summative assessment)?
(7)   What is your perception of the teacher’s attitude towards the content subject?
(8)   What is your perception of the students’ attitudes towards the content subject?
(9)   What did you see as strengths of the lesson?  What are areas for improvement?
(10)What other insights do you have about the instructional processes that you observed?

Write a 2-3 page paper which includes: a description of the observation, content subject and topic, the name of the teacher, date and time of the observation, and answers to the questions listed above.  You will submit this report through an assigned Blackboard link in the course.
Part 1 of the Tutoring Assignment Observation is due on: Tuesday 3/22/16 by midnight.  If the link on Blackboard is not working for you, please e mail me the assignment as an attachment so that I can give you full credit.

Assignment: Begin preparation of “To Teach Me is to Know Me” Creative Project that is due the day before our week 4 class on Tuesday 3/29/16 by midnight.
